BIO & EXHIBITIONS

Rubén Sánchez (Madrid, 1979) creates work that lies at the intersection of narrative figuration and abstraction, weaving together Mediterranean heritage with echoes of art giants like Juan Gris, Matisse, Léger, and the Purism of Le Corbusier and Ozenfant.
His pieces reflect a synthesis of European culture, embracing movements such as Bauhaus, graphic design, and architecture.
Rather than seeking definitive answers, his approach explores the boundaries of different artistic styles.

Sánchez’s works are deeply rooted in the present. The past is history, and the future remains a mystery.
Through bittersweet compositions, he captures the essence of modern life, paying homage to the mundane, the act of contemplation, and the beauty in human imperfection — often expressed through delicate balances.

The fragility of our daily harmony is symbolized by elements like fallen vases, wilting plants, or sport balls that disrupt the composition, challenging order and stability.

His still lifes reflect society, raising questions and leaving room for mystery, while celebrating the beauty and rawness of small, everyday moments.

In a world obsessed with near-robotic perfection, Sánchez’s work focuses on human vulnerabilities—whether it be forgiveness, overcoming obstacles, or struggles with phobias and anxiety—creating empathy with the viewer by tapping into these shared experiences.

The rebellious influence of 90’s skate culture and graffiti, alongside graphic design, is evident in his quest to avoid anything static. Figures twist in impossible postures, capturing the ethereal. Smoke, movement, and frozen moments in space-time define the inherent dynamism of existence.

It is an honest body of work from an artist who never pretends to be anyone other than himself. Comfortable in his insecurities, he invites us on a journey with no set destination.

HIS ARTWORK CAN BE FOUND IN EXHIBITS AND COLLECTIONS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, FROM JORDAN TO MIAMI, CHINA TO DUBAI.

HIS COMMISSIONS INCLUDE LARGE OUTDOOR SCULPTURES FOR THE NIKE HEADQUARTERS, THE BRAND IDENTITY FOR UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2019, A SANCHEZ SIGNATURE HOTEL IN DUBAI (THE MUSE) AND COLLABORATIONS WITH APPLE, ARMANI OR GOOGLE AMONG OTHERS.
